Wang Duo

Wang Duo (1592-1625) was born in Mengjin, Henan Province. He was the minister, calligrapher and painter in late Ming Dynasty and early Qing Dynasty. He uses the brush in a flexible and powerful way. Wang Duo is good at running hand and the cursive script. His works are elegant and powerful.

Wang Duo's works include "Nishanyuan Book" and "Langhuaguan Book".

Fu Shan

Fu Shan (1606-1684) was a great thinker between the period of Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. His original name was Dingchen, and he styled himself Qingzu, and then changed to Qingzhu. He was Hans and he was born in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province。

Fu Shan was knowledgeable: he had a good master of historical works, Pre-Qin philosophy, Chinese calligraphy and painting, and Medical science.

He is good at small regular script. It is of elegant style.

His works of couplets his works on the board are both elegant and powerful. Also his calligraphy theories have a great influence.

His works include "Shuanghong Niche Volume".

Jin Nong

Jin Nong (1687-1764) was born in Qiantang (now Hangzhou), Zhejiang Province. He lived in Yangzhou for a long time. He styled himself Shoumen, and also he was called Dongxin.

He was the pioneer of lacquer calligraphy. He used a special way of using strokes and ink and then created lacquer calligraphy. The strokes combined clerical script, regular script, running script and cursive script. The profile of long horizontal stroke and vertical stroke looked like clerical script, while left-falling stroke and right-falling stroke looked like Wei Steel. It seemed to be elegant, powerful and splendid.

His masterpieces include "Duliangruhai Book", "Sheng Zhongjiao Eulogy" and so on.

草书元人绝句

Liu Yong

Liu Yong(1719-1804) styled himself Chongru. He was also called Qingyuan, Xiangyan, Dongwu, Riguanfengdaoren and so on. He was a calligrapher, painter and politician of Qing Dynasty.

At the first sight, we can find that Liu Yong's works are round and soft, just like cotton. However, when we observe carefully, we can find that his works are of clear order and powerful. His pretty small regular scrip is as powerful as big characters. The structure of characters makes people feel ease and the strokes are clean and well-done.

His works includes "Poetry of Shi Convent".

Liang Tongshu

Liang Tongshu (1723-1815) styled himself Yuanying and Shanzhou, and later changed to Buweng and Xinwuchang. He was born in Qiantang, Zhejiang Province.

Liang Tongshu was filial in nature. He was famous for his calligraphy. He first learned the style of Yan Zhenqing and Liu Gongquan, later learned the style of Su Shi and Mi Fu. In the later years, he wrote calligraphy in a natural way. His works are well-presented and skilled. His works are the unity of his energy and his skills.

His works includes "Sulaoquan Writing" and so on.

翁方纲手札

Weng Fanggang

Weng Fanggang (1733-1818) was the calligrapher, litterateur and the master of epigraphy in Qing Dynasty. He styled himself Zhengsan and Zhongshu. His was also called Tanxi, later changed to Suzhai. He was born in Zhilidaxing (now Beijing).

Weng Fanggang was knowledgeable, studying hard on Yan Zhenqing, You Yangxun and the calligraphy in Tang Dynasty and official script in Han Dynasty. His running script is the typical traditional style. The strokes are coherent and soft. His works are special and show the great charm.

His representative works include "Fuchuzhai Writing" and so on.

Deng Shiru

Deng Shiru (1743-1805) was a master of seal cutting, a calligrapher and a pioneer of Deng genre in Qing Dynasty. His first name was Yan. He styled himself Shiru and he was also called Wanbaishanren. He was born in Huaining Anhui Province.

He used the way of official script to write seal script. He had great achievements on small seal script. The characters tend to be square-shaped, like ancient eaves tile of Qin-Han Dynasty and steel of Han Dynasty. His official script was learned from steel of Han Dynasty: the structure was in dense; be powerful and full of changes; and be of great vitality. His calligraphy refreshed official script of Qing Dynasty.

His representative works include "Poem of Visiting Wuyuan", "Writing of official script" and "Chenjiheshu", etc.

Zhao Zhiqian

Zhao Zhiqian (1829-1884) was a calligrapher, a painter and a master of seal cutting. He was Hans. He was born in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. His initially styled himself Yipu and Lengjun, later he changed to Weishu and Beian.

His calligraphy works learned from Works of Qin-Han dynasty, having a great influence to offspring's calligraphy. He interconnects clerical script, seal script and running script, therefore, we can see his calligraphy works are powerful, graceful and full of simplicity. Furthermore, the style of his strokes is learned from the style of strokes in Northern Wei Dynasty.

His representative works include "Weijiantingcaoshujishengjiao Xu" and others.
